Surrounded by woods and a breathtaking panorama, the 18 hectares/44.5 acres of the Lena di Mezzo estate form the heart of the Valpolicella Classica and dominate the landscape below the La Salette sanctuary. History, elegance, and territorial complexity are the key elements of Monte del Frà's stylistic credo. In this extraordinary territory, they find a new mainspring.
The Valpolicella (namely Val polis cellae, The valley of many cellars) is where each commune and vineyard distinct themselves through their very own nature. The vinification, harvesting, and wilting take place in San Pietro in Cariano, a modern structure with air-conditioned wilting premises able of controlled wilting of up to 300 tons of grapes. Thus, we can preserve the crispness and elegance of every single grape and ensure that technology becomes a tool to unfold the complexity and elegance of a true Valpolicella wine.
The Amarone Scarnocchio comes from the highest and longest-lasting vineyard of Lena di Mezzo. The Scarnocchio terroir translates into this complex Amarone Riserva, rich in balsamic mountain pine notes. It tells the story of dark soils and Valpolicella's characteristic extreme weather conditions. A true Cru.
Excellent with jam, and aged cheeses. Also wonderful on it’s own by the glass as meditation wine.
Soft crushing and destemming of the grapes from January to the end of March depending on the vintage. A slow alcoholic fermentation follows in small steel barrels at controlled
temperature. Long maceration of the skins to allow maximum aromatic and polyphenolic extraction. Afterwards, the wine passes into french oak where it completes the malolactic
fermentation. After the summer racking, 90% of the Scarnocchio amarone ages for at least 36 months in 30 hl french oak while the remaining 10% ages in french oak. After being bottled, aging follows for at least 12 months before marketing.
